Compliance
Compliance done right, from day one
Our products carry a full safety report and meet UK cosmetic regulations — sorted from day one. You don't need to know the technical details. We've done it. Your products are legal and ready.
What this means for you
If you're new to cosmetics, compliance can feel like the hardest part. Here's the good news: we've already done the heavy lifting for the products we supply.
Full safety documentation
Every cosmetic product placed on the UK market must have a Cosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR) — a mandatory document compiled by a qualified safety assessor that proves the product is safe for use. Build Your Blend holds a full CPSR for all of its products. This is a legal requirement, not optional.
Compliance handled by us
The law requires every cosmetic product to have a designated "Responsible Person" — the legal entity accountable for ensuring compliance, maintaining product documentation, and managing post-market safety monitoring. Build Your Blend acts as the Responsible Person for the products it places on the UK market. Their name and UK address appear on product labels.
In plain English: the products you receive through Build Your Blend are safety-assessed, legally documented, and ready for the UK market. You don't need to commission a safety report or find your own compliance contact for these products. That's already done.
What we handle
The six Common Criteria
All cosmetic claims in the UK must meet the six Common Criteria defined by the CTPA (Cosmetics, Toiletry and Perfumery Association). We design labels and guide positioning with these principles in mind.
Legal Compliance
Claims must comply with all applicable UK laws and regulations governing cosmetic products.
Truthfulness
Claims must not exaggerate what a product can do. If a product conditions beard hair, we say that — nothing more.
Evidential Support
Claims must be backed by verifiable evidence. We avoid claims that cannot be substantiated.
Honesty
Claims must not mislead consumers about a product's characteristics, functions, or effects.
Fairness
Claims must not denigrate competitors, ingredients, or other products unfairly.
Informed Decision-Making
Claims must enable consumers to make informed choices. Clear, accurate, and understandable information.

Your responsibilities as a brand owner
Build Your Blend handles compliance for the products it formulates and places on the market. But when you sell under your own brand, there are responsibilities that sit with you. Here's what you need to know.
Your brand, your obligations
Products from Build Your Blend: We act as the Responsible Person for the products we supply. This covers the safety report, product documentation, UK market notification, and post-market monitoring. You don't need to manage any of this for Build Your Blend products.
Products from other sources
Independent sourcing: If you source products from other manufacturers or create your own formulations, you will need your own Responsible Person for those products. The compliance coverage we provide applies to Build Your Blend products only.
Your online store
Product claims online: When listing products on your website or social media, make sure your marketing claims are accurate and don't overstate what the products can do. We'll guide you on what's appropriate during the label design process.
We recommend seeking independent legal advice for your specific compliance obligations. The information on this page is for general guidance and does not constitute legal advice.
